Invisible on Google: The SEO Basics Most Business Websites Miss
Many business owners search for their own company and find nothing, or find competitors instead. A website that search engines cannot understand or trust will not appear when customers are looking. Fortunately, most of the reasons are basic and fixable.
Check that Google can index your site
Search for site:yourdomain.com. If few or no pages appear, something is blocking indexing. Common causes are a “discourage search engines” setting left on after launch, noindex tags, a blocked robots.txt file or a missing XML sitemap. Connect Google Search Console to see exactly what is happening.
Give every page a clear title and description
Each page needs a unique title of about 50 to 60 characters that includes what the page is about, and a meta description that gives searchers a reason to click. Duplicate or missing titles make pages compete with each other.
Use one clear heading per page
Each page should have one main H1 heading that describes its topic, followed by logical H2 and H3 sub-headings. Headings help both visitors and search engines understand your content.
Write content that answers real questions
Thin pages with a few sentences rarely rank. Explain your services in detail, answer common questions, show your process and publish case studies. Useful, specific content earns visibility.
Do not forget local search
If you serve a city or region, create and complete your Google Business Profile, keep your business name, address and phone number consistent everywhere and ask happy clients for reviews.
Fix the technical foundations
Fast loading, mobile friendliness, HTTPS, working links and descriptive image alt text all support rankings. Remove old demo pages and duplicate content that dilute your site’s quality.
